We would like to extend a special invitation to you to join us and study geology, geosciences (science teaching) or environmental science (options in applied ecology, atmospheric science, environmental chemistry, earth resource science, hydrologic science) in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at California State University, Chico.
The faculty of the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences genuinely cares about our students and goes to great lengths to help them succeed. Because of strong faculty support, many of our students engage in undergraduate research and present papers at meetings of national societies like the GSA (Geological Society of America), where we had undergraduate students presenting their research last year and the AGU (American Geophysical Union), where some of our undergraduate students presented the results of their research last December in San Francisco. Every spring our students participate in the College of Natural Sciences Poster Session and last year we had over 25 entries, more than any other department in our college.
Because of the relatively small size of our Department, there is great camaraderie among our students, something that you will not find at the mega-research universities. We have a very strong student club called AGES - the Association of Geology and Environmental Students - which allows our students to enjoy the friendship and the help of fellow majors. AGES participates in community and university service events, supports student research, and department fieldtrips.
