Business, law, medicine, teaching, geology, oceanography: Those are just some of the many careers that our undergraduates have pursued in the past. Our innovative and flexible concentration programs provide an interesting path for students to follow on their way to an LSA degree. From our field camp at Camp Davis in Wyoming, to lab work on campus, Michigan students have an opportunity to explore the geological sciences in exciting ways.
The Department of Geological Sciences offers two concentration programs: Geological Sciences (BS or BA) and Earth Systems Science, either of which can be undertaken as Honors programs. The Department also offers academic minors in Earth Sciences, Environmental Geology, Geochemistry, Oceanography, and Paleontology, as well as a Teacher's Certificate Program.
The Department of Geological Sciences awards PhD and MS degrees in Geological Sciences and Oceanography. Students holding a BS degree are encouraged to apply directly to the PhD program; they may elect to receive a Masters degree while pursuing their PhD, but the MS degree is not prerequisite to the PhD.
